Jakarta City Council Vice Chairman Abraham Lunggana AKA Haji Lulung has rarely seen eye-to-eye with Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. With the Jakarta gubernatorial elections just two years away, Haji Lulung gave a rather frank assessment of Ahok’s time as the leader of the city-province.
“There hasn’t been anything to be proud of in regards to Ahok’s work since he became governor. If I may say so, the current governor is a failure,” Haji Lulung said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia today.
Haji Lulung added that he is 100% ready to replace Ahok as the governor of Jakarta if required.
“Whoever [the United Development Party or PPP] nominates, we’ll definitely support them. And I’m ready to take on that responsibility if I were chosen,” he said.
In case you don’t remember who Haji Lulung is, he’s the guy who couldn’t tell the difference between USB and UPS and whose midway-parted hair was compared to a Malaysian cartoon character. The police also searched his office for evidence of corruption. In fact, he’s such a colorful character we even compiled some of the darndest things he’s ever said.
Would Haji Lulung make a good governor? Well, if he does run, his debate with Ahok would be interesting to say the least.
