Online ojeks (motorcycle taxis) really have a way of bringing people together in Indonesia. After the bittersweet story of a passenger whose GrabBike driver turned out to be her father who she hadn’t seen in 10 years, the next viral tale from the world of app-based motorcycle hailing services seems to be a pretty darn cute love story.
Hidayat, 32, and Erika Widyaningsih, 21, are set to tie the knot on September 6. The couple shared the news on social media, which was reposted on Instagram by popular online ojek news/stories aggregator @dramaojol.id.

In the post, Hidayat recalled his first meeting with Erika. In June 2016, she hailed a GrabBike from home to go to work in Tangerang, and, as fate would have it, Hidayat accepted the order. Hidayat wrote that his heart “knew” that Erika was the one, and he asked for her number once they arrived at her destination, which Erika agreed to give with a smile (thankfully, Hidayat isn’t like some creepy ride-hailing app drivers who harass their passengers by contacting their numbers that are registered in the app).
That afternoon, Hidayat picked Erika up from her work and drove her home. They later began dating, and Hidayat saved up money for around one year before he proposed to her.
“We never imagined this would happen. When we’re talking to each other, we often ask ourselves how our meeting was possible and that soon we’re getting married,” Erika told Kumparan on Wednesday.
Erika said that Hidayat will continue working as a GrabBike driver and that they are both very grateful to have met through the ride-hailing app.
