Even with all the fines imposed against private vehicles that drive in the Busway lane, there are still plenty of naughty drivers who would rather risk losing a bit of money than having to queue in the macet.
Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama believes it’s time to take drastic measures to make sure only designated buses drive on the Busway lane.
Ahok wants CCTV cameras installed along the Busway lanes in the city to catch offenders, and then hit them where it hurts.
“[If a private vehicle] uses [the Busway lane], it’ll be photographed and we’ll fine the driver. If they don’t pay, then we’ll cancel their vehicle registration,” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Detik.
Sounds serious, but we doubt a lack of vehicle registration would stop some stubborn people in Jakarta from driving.
