Governor Ahok plans on building 4-5 kilometer long white sand beach to Ancol

Will Ancol one day look this lovely? Well, we want to believe it’s possible…

North Jakarta’s Ancol has beaches, but they leave a lot to be desired. But Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is dreaming of spreading a new, glorious white sand beach along the capital’s northern coast.

And he may actually see that dream become a reality as PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol is working on the plan as part of the larger project to reclaim Jakarta’s coastline.

“Looking ahead, Jakarta wants to have a long beach with white sand. We won’t do it half-heartedly either, it’ll be about 4-5 kilometers long, isn’t that cool?” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Gatra News

In addition to the white sand beaches, Ahok’s other dream for Jakarta is a world-class entertainment center like Sentosa Island, Singapore.

Work on the coastline reclamation project has already begun and the plan is for it to be completed within two years.

In addition to entertainment,  Ahok said the coastline reclamation project would also be used to add to the city’s property sector, adding land for new office and residential buildings in the area. The project aims to reclaim 32 hectares in total.

PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol has a budget of Rp 1.6 trillion for the first stage of the reclamation project.

Hopefully part of the reclamation project will involve cleaning up the water around Ancol too. No matter how nice the beach looks, we probably won’t go if the water remains as murky and smelly as it is now.
