Governor Ahok criticizes his own supporters for rallying at Car Free Day

Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama probably needs all the support he can muster if he wants to run in the gubernatorial elections in 2017 as a party-less independent. But his principles prevent him from letting anybody off the hook for breaking the rules, even his own supporters.

A group calling themselves “Dukung Ahok Gubernur” (Support Ahok as Governor), or DAG, held a political rally for Ahok’s during Car Free Day (CFD) yesterday. But, as we all know, political rallies are prohibited at CFD now

I appreciate and thank groups who want to support me. But abiding by the city’s rules is important

I don’t want my supporters to break the rules. This was not a good example.

I’d be much more happier if the citizens abide by the rules even though they don’t support me, compared to there being people claiming to support me but don’t respect the rules that exist.

We hope that the DAG group don’t lose face and stop supporting Ahok, because the governor was clearly just standing up for what’s right.
