Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is just one of many people in Indonesia and around the world grieving over the loss of AirAsia QZ8501, which has been missing since Sunday morning. Ahok shared his grief with thousands of students and teachers at a ceremony today and asked that they all pray for the 162 passengers onboard the ill-fated flight to Singapore.
Ahok made his request today while speaking at an event at the National Monument called “Declaration of Commitment to Beautiful, Peaceful, and Anti-Corrupt Schools.” The event was attended by thousands of students from elementary schools, junior highs and high schools from around Jakarta.
“We pray for the passengers of AirAsia, which, until now, we still do not know the fate of. We pray that God gives us all patience, fortitude, and strength to be able to find the plane and its passengers,” Ahok said, as quoted by Kompas.
