Less than a week after Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said he would replace 300 Echelon III and IV officials at the Jakarta provincial government, the governor has followed through on his words.
This morning, Governor Ahok appointed 649 new Echelon III and IV officials. To make sure they don’t disappoint like the 300 they replaced, Ahok had some words of advice for them.
“Government officials are servants. We must work quickly,” Ahok said in a speech at the appointment ceremony this morning, as quoted by Detik.
“My analysis is that for the past two years we’ve been overstaffed, had too many structural positions and many officials were paid higher than their capacity. These were the problems.”
Of the 649 new appointees in the two echelons, most of them were rotated between positions, whereas the rest were either promoted or demoted between echelons.
