Watch out, corrupt city officials. Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, along with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), has identified city officials within the city administration who have fat bank accounts that should be beyond their means.
PPATK Chairman Muhammad Yusuf said they are withholding the identities of the city officials for further investigative purposes.
“It’s a secret. But there are [city officials with fat bank accounts]. I’ll send the report to the authorities and we’ll see when it plays out,” Yusuf said at City Hall today, as quoted by Kompas.
Governor Ahok added that analyses of financial transactions weren’t just carried out on Jakarta city officials. Executives of Jakarta-owned enterprises have also come under the microscope.
“For example, officials dealing in stalled projects, like schools, bridges, and roads that are a mess. We ask the PPATK to investigate the use of the budget by Jakarta city officials. Did [the official] withdraw cash or not? Is there graft involving the City Council? It will be investigated,” Ahok said.
