Governor Ahok admits he wasn’t serious about legalized prostitution proposal

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is certainly known for being brutally honest and speaking his mind, but he can also be a bit of a troll sometimes.

Ahok admitted as much earlier today on Twitter, when, in a series of tweets, he said that he was never really serious about his proposal to create apartments in which prostitution would be legalized and regulated in order to stop the spread of underground and underage prostitution.

It’s not because he thinks that creating legalized red light districts aren’t the best solution for the impossible to eradicate problem of prostitution. He does. Rather, it’s because he knew that there was no way the people of Jakarta could ever be convinced of that fact.

“I brought it up just for discussion. If the people don’t agree then fine. It would be impossible to implement.”

“So it’s not just cancelled, but actually from the beginning we knew it was impossible to implement.”

“Few people’s eyes are open to the facts about prostitution. The reality of the situation is all around us. It’s only that many people pretend they don’t know about it.”

Ahok finished off his series of tweets by saying that it was good that people cared so much about morals, but urged them to report underground prostitution so that the people who profit from it can’t keep benefitting from it.
