While it certainly wasn’t one of the city’s more popular shopping centers, Tebet Green mall did offer travelers on the Cawang-Grogol toll road a place to stop and get some Starbucks and Burger King while waiting out the macet.
If you’re one of those people, sorry. The government just sealed the mall off this morning and is planning to start demolishing it quickly.
Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said the city government needs to act decisively because the mall had not paid the proper licensing fees for quite some time.
“Yes, since it’s been sealed we might want to demolition it later, the next stage is dismantlement,” Ahok said at City Hall this morning as quoted by Republika.
Ahok said the main problem was that the developers of Tebet Green did not pay the proper taxes. He said the city government had already given the mall some leniency in their payments schedule, but payments were still not being made.
“We do not want to be too hard on people, we can be flexible about the payment of fines. But if they act stubborn and ignored us, then we will be forced to take action,” Ahok said.
