Government wants to spend Rp 30 billion to level up the local gaming industry

There are not only a lot of talented video game players in Indonesia, but extremely talented game designers developers as well. Game design studios are a significant part of Indonesia’s rapidly growing tech industry, and the government is finally giving it some serious attention.

During a meeting last Thursday with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) and the Association of Electronic Sports Indonesia (IeSPA), representative from the Ministry of Industry said they were serious about helping Indonesian game developers succeed and were willing to invest some serious credits into doing so.

“We (the Ministry of Industry) have Rp 30 billion (US$2.13 million). Please make a proper proposal on what we can do for this industry,” said Ignatius Warsito, the director of  Electronics and Telematics Industry for the ministry, as quoted by MetroTV

Ignatius said that his ministry had not yet come up with a structured plan to help the gaming industry, so he expected game developer and publishers to give them lots of input on how best they could help.

While we’re not game developers, we are serious video game players. So we’d like to humbly suggest that the government use that money build a giant free-for-the-public arcade to showcase locally developed games. If they served beer and chicken wings there too, that would be awesome.
