Government launches official logo for Indonesia’s 70th anniversary of Independence

Yesterday the government launched the official logo celebrating Indonesia’s 70th year of independence.

The red and white logo, which features the number 70 stylized with a garuda eagle’s head and wings, also features the slogan “Ayo Kerja” (“Let’s Work”)

“Ayo Kerja” is the slogan for a new movement initiated by President Joko Widodo, which he explains in a press statement released with the logo:

“‘Ayo kerja is not a mere slogan, but a movement. What kind of movement? It is a movement that was envisioned by Bung Karno, the father of the nation who proclaimed independence. This movement of ours cannot be a small movement. It is a movement in which we must change all of our characteristics. A movement that wants to destroy that which hurts us at the source, at the roots.”

The president concludes the statement by writing:

“Indonesia is not only a place for our hopes, Indonesia is the field in which we struggle to make it happen. To that end, our common task is to change that hope into a reality. Ayo kita kerja.”

Vague, inspiring words from our president. As for the logo, we can’t really say we’re huge fans of the design (drop shadows, really?) but it’s certainly not an eyesore either.
