One hopeful sign that 2017 will be better than the semi-apocalyptic fever dream that has been 2016 is that the Indonesian government is giving us an extra officially mandated national holiday, with 15 in 2017 compared to 14 this year.
The new addition to the holiday lineup is June 1st, which President Joko Widodo has declared to be Birth of Pancasila Day, which unfortunately didn’t come into effect in 2016 (though it probably would have really helped).
The official national holidays and leave dates for 2017 were announced as a joint decree by the Ministries of Religious Affairs, Labor, and Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform last week.
