Government to announce new fuel subsidy policies tomorrow

The government is planning on announcing new policies regarding the fuel subsidy tomorrow. This was confirmed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said.

“Yes. On Tuesday, the government will announce the decision on the policies regarding the fuel subsidy,” Minister Sudirman told Detik Finance yesterday.

Sudirman added that the government will fine-tune the fuel subsidy policies today, and will ultimately select one of the several options available to them.

“We’re finalizing the options on Monday,” Sudirman said.

He revealed that some of the options that are being considered are a fixed subsidy for diesel or Solar fuel, and eliminating the subsidy for Premium fuel.

“The options we’re considering are a fixed subsidy for Solar [fuel], and, secondly, eliminating the subsidy for Premium [fuel]. So the price of Solar could fluctuate depending on the market, but there’ll be a fixed subsidy. Whereas Premium would be priced according to the economic value,” Sudirman said.
