Kalibata City is one of the most infamous apartments in Jakarta, notorious for the numerous news stories about drugs, illegal foreigners and prostitution being found within its complex. The latest police bust over the weekend, involving a massage service allegedly being used as a front for offering sex services, seems to be the second to last straw for Jakarta Vice Governor Sandiaga Uno, who is threatening to kick out the apartment’s current management company if they can’t clean up Kalibata City.
“Out last resort is revoking the permit for the apartment’s management so if, for example, there is a repeat [of similar incidences] we will appoint a new manager so that we can ensure that there are no more incidences that disturb public order and peace,” Sandiaga said at City Hall yesterday as quoted by Kompas.
Jakarta Police shut down two massage businesses in Kalibata City on Sunday that were allegedly being used as a front for prostitution. Police said that two suspects were arrested for soliciting sex services to residents of the apartments using the WeChat app.
There have been numerous prostitution busts in Kalibata City over the years, including several involving underage sex workers.
