Even though the Jakarta gubernatorial elections are still two years away, politicians are already expressing their interest in taking on the top job in the capital.
Golkar legislator Tantowi Yahya is the latest politician to say he would consider running for governor in 2017.
“I’m ready if my political party nominates me. But only if my chances are good,” Tantowi said, as quoted by Detik yesterday.
Incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama doesn’t seem like he takes these election rumors seriously, especially since there’s still a long time to go.
“I have to learn to sing because I’d lose to (Tantowi) in singing. He sings country better than me,” Ahok joked.
Ahok was referring to the fact that Tantowi made a name for himself as a country singer and a TV personality before he became a politician.
And he’s not half bad, either. Having a governor who can sing country music this well would be pretty swell we reckon.
And no, none of these people look out of place at all with their cowboy gear.
