Even though they’ve made getting around Jakarta much more convenient, motorcycle taxi hailing apps like Go-Jek and Grab Bike are not perfect (as very few things are) and they certainly aren’t immune to scandal either.
Recently, Go-Jek experienced one of the worst scandals in its short history after one of the company’s drivers was accused of molesting a 17-year-old schoolgirl.
The accusation came in a post on Facebook and Path, which went viral instantly. The post was supposedly written by the schoolgirl’s older sibling, who explained that the incident happened when the Go-Jek driver was driving the victim home from school.
“In the middle of the journey, the driver told his sexual problems to my little sister. But my sister didn’t respond to that. My sister repeatedly ignored the driver, but the driver kept on doing the stupid thing all the way to the destination,” the sibling wrote in the Facebook post above.
“The jerk driver was then brave enough to do the most disrespectful thing, which was to touch my sister’s bottom and genital area.”
The girl’s family then found out about the incident and reported it to authorities and Go-Jek.
Go-Jek claims to have met the girl and her family on Saturday to apologize. They also identified and fired the driver after he admitted to committing the revolting act.
“This case should be a lesson and a warning to all partner drivers that similar acts will not be tolerated and the culprit will be punished justly,” said Go-Jek PR Manager Rindu Ragilia, as quoted by BeritaSatu yesterday.
There’s no word yet if the driver will be criminally charged for molesting a minor.
