Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the passing of the country’s ambassador to Ukraine, Ghafur Akbar Dharmaputra. He was 58.
The ministry’s spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said in a statement that Ghafur passed away from an unspecified medical condition at a Jakarta hospital at 9:50pm on Thursday.
The Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv posted a moving farewell for Ghafur.
“He was a leader who was kind, trustworthy, and responsible. We will always remember the examples he has set and his goodness,” the caption reads.
Born on Feb. 16, 1964 in Bandung, West Java, Ghafur was appointed by President Joko Widodo as Indonesia’s ambassador to Ukraine in November 2021.
He was lauded for being instrumental in evacuating Indonesians from the Eastern European nation following Russia’s invasion on Feb. 24.
