In the wake of January’s deadly terrorist attack in Sarinah, Central Jakarta, the people of the capital got on to social media to express two main reactions: 1. “We are not afraid (#KamiTidakTakut)!” and 2. “Damn, look at those handsome police officers (#polisiganteng)!”
The second reaction must have been seen as quite the PR win for the Jakarta Police, who are more used to being called corrupt than cool and stylish. Perhaps hoping to capitalize on the goodwill earned by the fashionably attired officers who fought the terrorists on January 14, Jakarta Police Commissioner Krishna Murti has announced that his institution will be holding an expo at Gandaria City Mall in April so that the public can get up close and personal with the capital’s law enforcers.
As you can see from these posters, they really are playing up the whole “polisi ganteng” angle.
Commissioner Krishna took to Facebook himself to promote the event.
In the posts, he reveals that the expo, which has the theme “Together We Can Turn Back Crime”, will feature a number of “attractions”, including demonstrations of police equipment, police tactics and even police transparency (…).
Most importantly, Krishna says that visitors to the exhibition will be able to “take pictures with us”, meaning those of you who have dreamed of getting a selfie with one of Jakarta’s hunky policemen may finally get your chance.
