Garuda Indonesia cancels 49 flights after Soekarno-Hatta Airport fire

Garuda Indonesia was greatly affected by the fire at Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 2E on Sunday morning, after the airline reported they had to delay and cancel many flights over Sunday and Monday.

Arif Wibowo, first director of PT Garuda Indonesia, said almost 4,000 of the airline’s passengers were stranded at the airport because of the fire. This led to over 100 delays for Garuda flights arriving at and departing Soekarno-Hatta, as well as 49 cancellations to recover the airline’s flight schedules.

“We’ve successfully done a quick recovery from this morning until this evening (Monday), even though we admit there were a few flights that were delayed because we had to move passengers into bigger airplanes,” Arif said, as quoted by Liputan 6 yesterday.

The airline also offered refunds, rescheduling options, and accommodation at a hotel for the stranded passengers. Only 262 requested refunds, 628 took up accommodation at a hotel, while the rest decided to wait to be boarded at the terminal.

Hopefully everything is resolved by today and flights can resume their normal service at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
