They said they were inspired by cartoons, but their crime scpree sounds more like a game of Grand Theft Auto
A gang of young hoodlums said they were inspired by cartoons to wear long coats and carry giant chainsaws and baseball bats while they stole from their victims. Three members of the gang of eight, identified by their initials FH, HT and IG, were captured by the police recently.
Describing their crime spree, South Jakarta Police Commander Wahyu Hadiningrat told Tribunnews, “From August 5 and 6 they violated the law at numerous crime scenes. They were walking down Jalan Joglo Barat and robbed a victim of their wallet and mobile phone.”
“Then they moved up the area to Ulujami, Pesanggrahan, where they stole a Honda Scoopy and Yamaha Mio motorcycle. Then in Pondok Pinang, the offenders robbed another Mio from a number of young people who were hanging out on the street.”
“Finally on Jalan Leuser in Kebayoran Baru, they stole the property of a PLN excavation officer.”
It took a while, but police were able to track down three of the hoodlums. FH was arrested yesterday at a mall in Bintaro, while HT and IG were secured at a boarding house on Jalan Fatmawati in South Jakarta.
Police said that the offenders, aged 16-20, were inspired to carry their intimidating weapons by a cartoon, but did not specify which one. We think it’s more likely they were inspired by a video game like Grand Theft Auto, since their insane crime spree suggests people who think they have extra lives.
Police are still searching for the other members of the gang.
