FPI accuses Ahok of involvement in 3 corruption cases and reports him to police

Instead of showing the world the beauty and tolerance of Islam, it seems like all the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) does is obsessively try (and fail) to discredit Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, hoping that the non-Muslim leader will be forced to step down from his position.

Yesterday, FPI representative Ja’far Shodiq reported Ahok to the Jakarta Police for three counts of graft. Their evidence is based on the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK)’s report on the Jakarta Government’s finances in 2014.

“There are three corruption cases that we suspect the governor of Jakarta is involved in, even though he always says he’s anti-corruption,” Ja’far said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia yesterday.

The FPI said Ahok is responsible for swindling the state out of trillions of rupiah through shady dealings, such as marking up land prices and siphoning money off of budget reallocations.

Ahok was not too bothered by the allegations.

“If [the police] summon me, I will come. I’m used to being reported [to the police],” Ahok said, as quoted by Vivanews

Well, we’re interested to see how this plays out. Could FPI have any actual evidence for their allegations or are they simply blowing smoke? At least this time they’re opposing Ahok on political grounds as opposed to his religion, as they have done in the past.
