Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has recovered after undergoing medical treatment for his prostate cancer in the US, with Indonesia’s sixth president scheduled to return home soon.

SBY’s diagnosis was first announced in November by his personal assistant Ossy Dermawan, who said the doctors caught his prostate cancer in its early stages.

SBY has been staying in Rochester, MN since mid-November to undergo a series of surgeries and other medical treatments at Mayo Clinic to remove a tumor in his prostate. In a video uploaded to the Instagram page of his late wife Ani Yudhoyono on Nov. 23, SBY said his surgery went as well as expected by the doctors.

Dipo Alam, former cabinet secretary during SBY’s second tenure as president, announced the recovery of the 72-year-old retired army general in a tweet.

Alhamdulillah (praise God), we convey our gratitude to God, Pak @SBYudhoyono has recovered. Hopefully with his recovered health he’s ready to carry out his activities in Indonesia. Thank you to the doctors and the government who have facilitated the recovery of Pak SBY’s health,” the tweet reads.

Separately, Democratic Party’s spokesman Herzaky Mahendra Putra also confirmed that SBY will return to Indonesia soon, though he didn’t specify the date.
