Former air hostess Siwi Widi Purwanti has dropped the defamation charges against online whistleblower @digeeembok, who alleged that she is the mistress of a former airline executive in what was arguably the biggest corporate scandal in Indonesia last year.
Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Yusri Yunus confirmed the news today, but stopped short of explaining Siwi’s reasoning for dropping the charges.
“Obviously she must have withdrawn [the report] for a reason. We’re still looking into it,” Yusri said.
Last December, @digeeembok made some super explosive allegations about the existence of “prostitution” within the ranks of air hostesses in flag carrier Garuda Indonesia. This includes one specifically against Siwi, as the whistleblower alleged that she is one of several Garuda flight attendants who received preferential treatment after becoming involved in affairs with Garuda executives.
In Siwi’s case, @digeeembok said that she is also involved in affairs with other bosses of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), even assisting in money laundering schemes for some.
Siwi, who denied all the allegations, reported @digeeembok to the Jakarta Metro Police for defamation in late December, which she publicly announced in mid-January due to what she said were scheduling conflicts as she was still employed as a Garuda air hostess.
After failing to meet two police summons for testimony, she finally testified against @digeeembok around a week after announcing the lawsuit. Police have questioned at least six other witnesses regarding the case.
Police took the defamation case to the investigation stage in mid-March, during which they said that they were tracking the person behind @digeeembok handle. The real identity of @digeeembok has not been revealed to this day.
In mid-April, Siwi announced on Instagram that she had resigned from Garuda Indonesia before her contract was supposed to end next year, a decision she said “hurt her heart.”
