Football golden boy Evan Dimas scores another trial in Spain, Sports Minister sends him off with sarong as a gift

We think that youngster Evan Dimas is a shining beacon of talent in the world of Indonesian football – which, frankly, isn’t saying much at all.

After a trial spell with Second Division Club UE Llagostera in Spain last year, the 20-year-old secured yet another trial with Barcelona-based RCD Espanyol.

But, unfortunately, Evan won’t, in all likelihood, play for the first team, which competes in the world-famous La Liga. Instead, Evan is joining reserve side Espanyol B, which competes in Spain’s Second Division B, for a 5-month developmental program.

So yeah, not exactly earth shattering news. But the Indonesian Sports Ministry made quite a big deal of Evan’s departure by holding a farewell event today, during which they gifted him with a sarong, of all things.

“I can only give [Evan Dimas] my prayers, motivations, and hopes. Other than that, here’s a sarong. Why sarong? Because it’s part of Indonesia’s identity,” Sports Minister Imam Nachrawi sai during Evan’s farewell ceremony today, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.

Maybe Evan can wear the sarong while training in order to catch the attention of the first team coach?

In any case, Evan is leaving for his newest Spanish adventure tonight from Jakarta. Let’s hope he has the cojones to make it there.
