A massive fire blazed for six hours on Jalan Pasar Family in Bekasi starting late Tuesday night. Eight shops selling construction goods were destroyed as a result.
“The source of the fire might have been an electrical fault, because we heard several explosions prior to the fire from one of the shops,” said local man Johanes, as quoted by Vivanews today.
12 firetrucks from three fire stations were deployed to put out the fire, but they only managed to do so into the early hours of Wednesday morning, six hours after the fire started, because the construction shops that were on fire contained many flammable objects like paint and thinner.
“We admit to struggling to put out the fire because there were so many flammable objects in the buildings,” said firefighter Rosadi at the scene.
“Not only that, road access to the location was narrow and there was a traffic jam.”
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and estimating financial losses.
