Ride-hailing apps such as Go-Jek have had a huge impact on many people in Indonesia, radically changing how customers get around while also giving drivers a flexible source of employment. But few if any have had their lives impacted by Go-Jek as much as two of the company’s drivers in Medan, who met, fell in love and recently got married after meeting through a Go-Jek drivers Whatsapp group.

Later their colleagues accompanied the newlyweds as they paraded around the city riding in a classic car, with Puja wearing his Go-Jek jacket over his traditional wedding outfit.

Novi told Tribunnews that she had started working for Go-Jek in early February, not looking for romance but simply a way to earn some money while she worked on her university thesis.

She first heard of her future husband Puji when she joining the “Solidaritas Go-Jek Medan” Whatsapp group, in which Puja was the admin. They then met at a Go-Jek blood donation drive in late February.

Puja then “accidentally” sent a Whatsapp message to Novi directly, saying it had been met for the group. But Novi said she knew he was just making his first move.

Soon the two started chatting often and, after getting to know each other better, Puja invited Novi to meet his parents. Impressed with his courage and sincerity, she soon agreed to marry him.

“I am so grateful that, through Go-Jek, I, could find my spouse and experience this unforgettable wedding,” Novi said.
