Family of meth manufacturers caught cooking inside Kapok Muara apartment

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested four people caught producing methamphetamines on the third floor flats of the Kapok Muara apartment building in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Monday.

Police said the offenders were actually a family act, consisting of siblings Sani (age 36) and Nick (age 34) as well as their mother, Hoy Cheng (age 60). The fourth suspect caught was Pinpin (age 35), who police say is Sani’s boyfriend.

BNN Commissioner Anang Iskandar said the family had been living in Kapok Muara since early 2008 but had only started manufacturing methamphetamines a month ago.

Anang said the family had converted their kitchen into a laboratory. He also noted that Hoy Cheng Yang not only knew what her children were doing but was also active in helping them manufacture the narcotics.

Anang said his officers found 250 grams of finished methamphetamine at the lab and the materials required to create a half kilogram more.

Police are investigating the family’s connection to meth labs in Medan and Aceh.
