A family of four tragically died in their car Sunday at around 9pm in what authorities suspect to be a case of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The family, which consisted of a couple and their two sons, aged 18 and 6, were trapped in their car in the flood on Jalan Raya Carita Labuan in Pandeglang, Banten yesterday.
“At the time there was heavy rain which caused a landslide in a nearby hill and consequently a flash flood. At the same time the sea was in high tide and also caused a flood which was 50-150 cm deep,” said Lilis Sulistiati of the Pandeglang Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), as quoted by Detik today.
Unable to drive through the flood, the family opted to remain in their car with the AC switched on. It is believed that after being stationery for a long time in the flood, the car’s AC began to emit carbon monoxide inside the car, killing all inside.
The same flood in Pandeglang dislodged 988 people from their homes in 4 villages yesterday.
