Jakarta Police took down two men found to be making fake diplomas on Jalan Raya Pramuka in Matraman, East Jakarta, on Monday.
During the arrest, police seized a number of items of evidence including a number of forged diplomas as well as a computer and printer set allegedly used to make the illicit degrees of higher learning.
Police Superintendent Herry Heryawan said this arrest was meant to show the police was addressing the widespread social unrest caused by the practice of fake diploma.
“We are not staying silent. We pursue all forms of crime, including the manufacturing of fake diploma,” Herry said as quoted by Poskotanews. http://poskotanews.com/2015/05/25/tempat-pembuatan-ijasah-palsu-digerebek/
Herry said the police received information that the area around Jalan Raya Pramuka was a hotbed for the buying and selling of counterfeit diplomas.
Police ambushed the two counterfeiters in a coffee shop while they were carrying a number of files including several fake diplomas. After getting caught, they took officers to the kiosk where the diplomas were being manufactured.
Police say the suspects, Badriansyah, 34, and Kusnadi, 52, admitted that they had been doing the fake diploma business for a while.
“For bachelors degree diplomas, they charged Rp 3 million and it only took 3 hours. As for the higher tariff masters degree diplomas, those cost Rp 45 million,” said Police Commissioner Ananto.
Disturbingly, Ananto said there were indications that the two were working with actual universities to legitimize their fake diplomas.
Police say there is evidence that Badriansyah and Kusnadi were not only making fake diplomas, but also fake vehicle registrations. They are still investigating the case.
