Thanks to a doze of good fortune, a homeowner in the town of Kisaran, North Sumatra, foiled a burglary attempt at his house, albeit sustaining a pretty nasty blow in the process.
As reported by JPNN, a teenager, identified as Dede, 16, broke into a house owned by a man named Marudin Silitonga at around 11am last Friday while its inhabitants were out. After grabbing a few valuable items, Dede fell asleep in the house instead of leaving the scene, as perhaps more seasoned burglars might think to do.
But Dede jolted awake when he heard Marudin return. Seeing his house ransacked, Marudin searched around and found Dede hiding behind a door. A struggle between the pair ensued and Dede knocked Marudin out with a hammer blow to the head.
However, Marudin’s neighbors heard the commotion and caught Dede, subjecting him to a good old fashioned mob beating before the police arrived and took him into custody.
When asked how he could have possibly fallen asleep during the attempted burglary, Dede told the investigators that, after he finished stealing the goods, he decided to wait inside the house because the neighborhood was crowded at the time. He said he got sleepy from waiting and eventually fell asleep.
From Dede, the police recovered Marudin’s laptop, a digital camera and a watch. It’s not yet clear what charges Dede will face.
The extent of Marudin’s injury was not revealed in the initial report.
