Right now, many Indonesian news outlets and the general public are still obsessed with the high profile coffee poisoning murder case of Wayan Mirna Salihin.
In an even newer case with obvious similarities to Mirna’s, a worker at a fabric factory in Cilincing, North Jakarta, identified as 23-year-old Ayu Lestari, is suspected of trying to kill her quality control supervisor, 23-year-old Noviana, by poisoning her drink.
Ayu is believed to have sneakily poured paint thinner into Noviana’s bottle of water on Wednesday morning, which Noviana then drank during lunch.
“The victim became queasy, vomited, and her face turned red,” said Cilincing Police Chief Commissioner M. Supriyanto, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
Luckily, Noviana survived the poisoning after being treated at a nearby hospital.
Authorities soon fingered Ayu as the one responsible and arrested her on the day.
“The suspect was upset that her work was often rejected by the victim,” Supriyanto said.
Ayu could face up to two years in prison for attempted murder.
There’s no word yet on whether the suspect might have been inspired by the Wayan Mirna Salihin murder case to carry out the poisoning plot.
