An Indonesian F16 fighter plane caught on fire this morning at the Military Air Base in Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta.
A brief press release from the Indonesian Air Force said the plane, piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Firman with the tail number TS-1643, caught on fire while it was on the runway at 8:20am.
The pilot safely ejected from the burning airplane, while the plane’s rear left wheel had come off. It wasn’t revealed what caused the fire in the first place.
The plane, along with three others, was scheduled to fly from Halim to the Military Headquarters and back for a ceremony in which Military General Moeldoko would give President Joko Widodo a symbolic beret and military command stick today.
