The Express taxi company in Jakarta admitted that they might be implicated in the recent late night robberies that victimized two female passengers in Kuningan and SCBD, South Jakarta.

Sutiarto, general manager of operations at Express Group, said the company is committed to helping the police investigate the robberies that happened inside a white taxi.

“We have contacted the victims to ask about the the robberies. Such incidents are detrimental to our reputation,” Sutiarto said on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.com

One of the victims reported the taxi registration number DP 8015 to the police on November 26. The police then called upon the Express Group to aid their investigation.

However, after looking at the Express Group database, the victim saw significant differences between the driver’s physical appearance as well as that of the car he drove.

Furthermore, taxi number DP 8015 was not supposed to operate in the areas where the robberies happened. The police suspect someone modified a white taxi to look like an Express taxi.

Sutiarto added that robbers would not be able to hide in the trunk of an Express taxi and force their way in through the foldable back seat, as happened in the two recent robberies.

“Access from the trunk to the back seat is shut permanently [in Express taxis],” he said.
