The driver of an Express Taxi, 54-year-old Tony Zahar, was found dead and covered in blood, slumped over in the driver’s seat of his taxi on Jalan Rawa Bambu Raya in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.
Jakarta Police Spokesman Martinus Sitompul said Tony was found dead at 5.30 am this morning.
“The victim, Tony Zahar, was a resident of Kampung Bali, Matraman, Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta. He was found dead in Express Taxi B 1595 ETB, hull number DC7177, in a sitting position face down on the steering wheel,” Martinus said as quoted by BeritaSatu this morning.
Martinus said the victim was found by Janu Sugiantoro, an ojek driver. Janu told a Metro Mini driver that he thought the taxi driver had died in his cab. When they checked Tony’s body, they found him dead and covered in blood.
After the witnesses reported their find to the authorities, a police forensics team came to the scene and found that the victim had a gaping wound on his neck.
Martinus said that a kitchen knife was found lying near the car as well as items from the victim including his wallet, ID card, ATM cards and several mobile phones.
Police are investigating the likely murder, examining witnesses and waiting for the results of the post-mortem examination of the victim.
