Yesterday the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) evicted residents and tore down illegal shacks near the Commuter Train Line passing through Tanah Abang Station. This morning, the commuter train was pelted with large rocks, shattering windows and frightening women while fires raged nearby.
“Today the illegal buildings where women of the night gathered by the edge of the rail near Tanah Abang was burned down by the Satpol PP, good job!”
Kompas reported large fires engulfing houses along the Bogor-Tanah Abang line at 9:45 am this morning, as well as the ruins of shacks that had been demolished yesterday.
A train attendant said trains along the line were stopped, not due to the fires, but because angry evicted former residents were pelting the trains with stones.
Vivanews reported that commuters were frightened to the point of hysteria by the rocks, some of which smashed through train windows, causing some women to lie on the ground to avoid the attacks.
