DON’T PANIC: The rumours about fake Indomie Goreng being sold are false

Indonesians love spreading rumors almost as much as they love eating Indomie. So when somebody posted evidence on Facebook of fake Indomie Goreng (above), a lot of people started to panic.

The evidence for fake mie presented in the Facebook post were numerous. The photo showed that different packages had slight printing variations, including ingredients being listed in different orders. The post claimed the finished products tasted different as well.

Indofood, the company that makes Indomie, has decided to step in to stop the fake noodle panic.

“It’s not true, it fact there has already been a clarification from the Facebook user who originally posted it. The different variations are due to [the Indomie coming from different manufacturing plants], but it is indeed our product, so they are not fake,” said Indofood manager of corporate communications Stefanus Indrayana told Kompas today.

According to him, Indofood has a variety of production facilities that create the packaging for Indomie. That is why the packages and order of ingredients may vary slightly between packages.

Regarding the different packages having different flavors, Stephen believes that’s probably simply due to psychological factors, with expectations coloring people’s perceptions.

So stay calm and continue to eat your Indomie without worry (just don’t look at the calorie or fat content on the nutrition label and you’ll be fine).
