We mentioned how the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) rented a shop space somewhere in Tebet to act as Counter-Governor Fachrurozi’s office. Even though most people are unaware that the building is an office, locals claim that they have seen some political figures, including losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, enter the office.
Abdul Rahman, the shop unit’s keeper, said he was only recently aware that the space was being rented out to the FPI. On December 10, he saw a group of men go into the office.
“In the group there was [dangdut superstar] Rhoma Irama and FPI leader Rizieq Shihab,” Abdul told Tempo last Friday.
“They said there was a governor’s meeting.”
Yan Sucipto, a 70-year-old local, also said he didn’t know the shop space was rented out to Counter-Governor Fachrurozi. But he remembers a bunch of men in white going in and out of the building.
“I saw Prabowo go in during the presidential elections. Habib Rizieq also comes often,” Yan said.
There is one huge hole in Yan’s story, however. The office was only just opened last week, whereas the presidential elections occurred in July. So we’ll put this down as the ramblings of an old man. There’s no need to worry that, for some reason, Prabowo is funding or supporting the other governor of Jakarta.
As for Rhoma Irama? Who cares. That man is also in denial and lost his sanity long before he said he’d be an ideal candidate for president.
