Developers calling on netizens to name tentative Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train

Despite President Joko Widodo breaking ground on the construction of Indonesia’s first high-speed train between Jakarta and Bandung last month, the project has currently ground to a halt and seems to be stuck in limbo after a number of bureaucratic problems came up, including the Transportation Ministry refusing to give the green light to developers PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) because of incomplete paperwork.

But that’s not stopping KCIC from going on social media to call on netizens to name the now theoretical high-speed train.

There have been several entries that we’re actually impressed with. Some pretty awesome ones include ‘J2B45’ (Jakarta 2 Bandung in 45 minutes), ‘Van Java Express’, and ‘Flash Train Indonesia’, but there are also entries that consist of forced acronyms like ‘KECE ABIS’ (KEreta CEpat jAkarta Bandung IndoneSia).

Whatever the name is going to be, we hope it’s gonna be up there with the likes of Japan’s Shinkansen, France’s Train a Grande Vitesse, and Germany’s Intercity Express.

That is, of course, if the project actually goes ahead. But we’ll take the fact that KCIC is already thinking about names for the project probably means it won’t be aborted.
