Police in Depok, West Java arrested a man on suspicion of brutally murdering his daughter and severely wounding his wife this morning.
According to the police, the suspect, identified by his initial K, used a machete to attack the victims, 31-year-old NI and 13-year-old KPC, at around 5:30am today. KPC was wearing her school uniform at the time of the incident.
Police described that a witness, who was on the second floor of the house but whose relationship with the family was not disclosed, heard screaming from the ground floor and saw K slashing and hacking the victims with the weapon.
“Because the suspect was still on a rampage, the witness did not dare to come down. After the suspect left, the witness called neighbors for help,” Depok Metro Police Crime Investigation Unit Head Yogen Heroes Baruno said.
Yogen added that the daughter had numerous slash wounds on her face and throughout her body, and that several of her fingers had been severed. Her mother also suffered deep wounds on her face, and is now in critical condition in hospital.
Police arrested K soon after the incident. The suspect is being interrogated as police seek to establish a motive for the murder.
Under Indonesian law, premeditated murder is a crime punishable by the death penalty or life imprisonment.
