Police have released more details into a gruesome homicide in Depok, West Java, in which a father killed his own daughter in a fit of rage.
On Tuesday morning, 31-year-old RNA used a machete to hack and slash his wife, 31-year-old NI, and their 11-year-old daughter KPC (previously reported to be 13 years old), killing the latter and leaving the former in critical condition.
After interrogating the suspect, police have established that RNA had spent the previous night hanging out with his friends and consuming meth. He then went home and attacked his own family after a heated argument with NI.
“The suspect often went home in the morning [after a night out], so the couple often fought. [This time] the wife asked him why he came home in the morning, leading to another argument. The suspect then went to the mosque for dawn prayer after his wife asked him for a divorce,” Depok Metro Police Chief Imran Edwin Siregar said at a press conference today.
At around 5:30am, when RNA returned from the mosque, he saw that NI was ready to leave the house with KPC, who was in her elementary school uniform and ready to go to school for the day.
Police said this triggered another argument between RNA and NI. In a rampage, the suspect grabbed a machete and attacked both NI and KPC, killing the sixth grader at the scene. NI is in critical condition due to machete-inflicted wounds on her head and throughout her body.
The suspect’s younger sister, S, was on the second floor of the house at the time of the incident. She witnessed the attack but did not dare to go downstairs to help the victims out of concern for her own safety.
After RNA left the house leaving the victims to die on the floor, S alerted neighbors for help. One neighbor saw that NI was still alive and rushed her to a hospital in her car.
RNA and NI also have a one-year-old child, who was not hurt in the incident.
RNA has been charged with intentional but non-premeditated murder, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison under the Criminal Code (KUHP).
