Democrats vice chair: Former First Lady Ani Yudhoyono is “more than Hillary Clinton”

Rumors that former Indonesian First Lady Ani Yudhoyono is going to be nominated by the party for the 2019 presidential elections have become a pretty hot topic lately.

While members of the party don’t seem to be on the same page regarding whether or not SBY’s wife is actually planning to run or not, they all seem to agree that Ani’s pretty swell.

In fact, Democratic Vice Chairwoman Nurhayati Ali Assegaf said any inevitable comparisons between Ani and former US first lady and potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are unfair… for Ani.

“[Ani] is more than Hillary Clinton, don’t compare her to Hillary Clinton,” Nurhayati said yesterday, as quoted by Detik.

We’ll forgive Nurhayati’s blatant bias for Ani, given she’s a high-ranking member of the Democratic Party and reportedly a very close confidant of the Yudhoyono family. But we’re not sure what she meant when she said Ani is “more” than Hillary.

Surely she can’t mean in terms of political experience?

In addition to being the first lady of the US for 8 years (a time during which she endured a salacious scandal because of her husband Bill), Hillary Clinton went on to serve multiple terms as a US senator before eventually becoming Secretary of State under President Obama. Barring a minor miracle by her opponent, Clinton looks set to become the Democratic presidential nominee and could very well become the first female president of the world’s greatest superpower.

Meanwhile, aside from serving as first lady, Ani Yudhoyono only other political experience is having served as vice chairwoman of the Democratic Party, which is led by her husband and former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

So yeah, it’d be pretty hard to make any arguments about Ani being “more” than Hillary in terms of being qualified to lead a country. Perhaps Nurhayati was talking about Instagram followers? In that respect, then yes, Ani has more than Hillary
