Julia Perez, one of the nation’s most famous celebrities, has revealed that her cervical cancer has reached its most advanced stage.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Julia Perez, also commonly known as Jupe, said she is now suffering from Stage 4 cervical cancer, meaning that her cancer has spread from her cervix to other parts of her body.
Jupe appeared to be stoic in the face of her life-threatening disease.
“I used to be blinded by my riches, my fame. I once felt like I was a great celebrity. I can buy this and that. I almost forgot about death and when I got ill, I was reminded [about what’s important in life], so God gave me something beautiful,” Jupe said, as quoted by Kompas.
“I have to make myself strong. I have to be ready to face this.”
Jupe first revealed that she has cervical cancer two years ago, when she tearfully announced to the press that her cancer had already reached Stage 2A at that point.
It appeared as though she had beaten her cancer after a long struggle, so this latest development has come as quite a shock to her fans.
According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate for Stage 4 cervical cancer is only 15-16%. In the face of such small odds, we hope Jupe can find the strength to continue fighting her disease in the hopes that she can beat it.
