Customer sues Telkomsel over unauthorized Rp 6,600 ($0.50) phone credit deduction

Telkomsel, Indonesia’s state-owned mobile phone service provider, has been sued over Rp 6,600 of pulsa, or phone credit.

Yesterday, a Telkomsel customer by the name of Anggiat Napitapulu, filed a lawsuit against the telco giant at the South Jakarta District Court, accusing them of deducting Rp 6,600 from his phone credit without his consent.

According to Anggiat, Telkomsel deducted his credit to pay for a customized personal dial tone, which he did not order.

“I am filing the lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court because I feel cheated,” Anggiat told BeritaSatu.

Anggiat’s lawyer, Lesmana Budiarta, said they are using Article 362 of the Criminal Code against Telkomsel, which states that theft can be punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

Lesmana explained that the credit deduction occurred on July 28, 2015, but the balance was returned the next day. While this lawsuit may seem to be blown out of proportion especially considering that Anggiat’s Rp 6,600 was eventually returned, Lesmana said that his client wants Telkomsel to disclose his transactions log dating back to 2012 in case they might have cheated him out of more phone credit in the past as well.

Telkomsel has not made a statement regarding the lawsuit.

If this lawsuit sticks, then the last couple of months won’t have been kind to Telkomsel. In late April, the company’s website was defaced by hackers as a form of protest against their pricey mobile plans.
