Remember last week’s sad story about 58 soon-to-be married couples getting conned out of their money by a fake wedding organizer? Well it looks like they may get justice, if not the wedding of their dreams.
The police traced down the husband and wife owners of Wawai Bride wedding organizers , 45-year-old Ali Mahmudin and 43-year-old Bulan Sri Wulan Sibarani, who had disappeared from Jakarta last week with the money meant to pay for the wedding celebrations of 58 of their clients.
The couple were tracked down by police in the city of Salatiga in Central Java last Friday. They confessed to stealing the wedding money, but said it was to pay for Wulan to receive traditional medicine treatments for her diabetes in Salatiga.
Police say the couple is being charged with fraud, which could result in them both spending five years in jail. Wulan is currently receiving medical treatment for her condition at Kramat Jati Police Hospital. No word yet on whether police were able to recover any of the wedding money the couple stole or whether it would be returned to the people they defrauded.
