‘Crazy Cars Chase’ is a smashing GTA-inspired mobile game set in Jakarta

We bet that you, surely a responsible driver, have often shaken your head at the shameless displays of reckless driving committed by many of the capital’s public transport drivers.

Now you can engage in the same sort of psychopathic reckless driving in Jakarta too, only within the safe confines of your smartphone. “Crazy Cars Chase” is Grand Theft Auto-esque escape-the-cops low poly mobile game from Touchten, a Jakarta-based game studio and the makers of another popular Indo-centric game, “Warung Chain”. We’ve been playing CCC for the last few days and it’s definitely proven to be an addictive new tool for wasting time.

We say the game is GTA-esque because it’s evidently heavily inspired by GTA, albeit only the car chase parts. Like in GTA, you accumulate more stars the longer you play, which represents your wanted level. The more stars you have, the more vehicles chase you, from cop cars to armored vehicles to tanks.

But to us, the appeal of CCC that it’s an homage to our beloved capital city. To start things off, you get to evade law enforcement in a bajaj (the orange one, which was banned in the city for being highly toxic to the environment) as you drive around and spot various city landmarks like the National Monument (Monas) and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout. As you accumulate points, you’ll be able to unlock new rides, all of which are based on existing Jakartan public transport vehicles such as the angkot minivan, Kopaja bus, TransJakarta bus, and taxi.

The controls are limited to right or left (no brakes!) which makes maneuvering around the authorities a tad tricky but rewarding when you can pull off an escape. Just make sure you don’t emulate this kind of reckless behavior when you hit the road in real life – because some say violent games like GTA can easily influence our impressionable little minds.

You can download ‘Crazy Cars Chase’ for Android or iOS.
