Another person in authority is in trouble in Indonesia over the sins of their son. This time, the viral footage shows that the father in this case is also complicit in the crime.

A couple of clips circulated widely recently depicting 19-year-old Aditya Hasibuan brutally assaulting a college student named Ken Admiral in Medan, North Sumatra. According to the authorities, the assault, which was likely triggered by a feud over a girl, took place on Dec. 22, 2022.

Dubbed “Mario Dandy Vol. 2” in reference to a tax official’s son whose brutal assault of another boy opened the floodgates to intense public scrutiny towards seemingly unscrupulous officials, the clips show Aditya pinning Ken to the ground while others watched the latter being pummeled, kneed, stomped, and spat on.

Among those who watched, and who at one point held someone back from intervening to end the assault, was Aditya’s father, AKBP (senior adjunct police commissioner) Achiruddin Hasibuan.

Police investigation into the assault case stalled for the past four months – allegedly through some intervention by Achiruddin – but, after the clips went viral, authorities finally arrested Aditya yesterday and charged him with assault, which carries up to five years’ imprisonment under the Criminal Code (KUHP).

Following an investigation by Internal Affairs, Achiruddin was relieved from his duty as a narcotics department head at the North Sumatra Police, discharged from the force, and placed in police custody as his actions were deemed to have violated the police’s code of ethics.

Ken’s mother today revealed that, despite his injuries, her son had to fly back to the UK to sit his college exams just a couple of days after the assault. She said that Ken’s vision has been significantly impaired as a result of the beating.
