While the nation is still exhaustively poring over every little detail in the murder case of Police Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat almost two months since he was gunned down, another story of cop-on-cop violence has been reported in Lampung.

Police 2nd Sub-Inspector Ahmad Karnain of the Way Pengubuan sub-precinct in Central Lampung was shot and killed in his home on Sunday. The sole suspect in his murder is fellow Police 2nd Sub-Inspector RS, who was stationed at the Central Lampung precinct.

According to the police, RS shot Ahmad because the latter angered the former for spreading gossip about him.

“It is understood that the suspect was vengeful towards the victim, because the victim always spread the suspect’s shame among their peers. In a WhatsApp group there was a story that the suspect’s wife hadn’t paid her arisan fee,” Lampung Police spokesman Zahwawani Pandra Arsyad said today, referring to the rotating community savings scheme.

RS has been charged with murder under the KUHP (Criminal Code), which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Indonesian cops aren’t enjoying the best of reputations at the moment, mainly due to a case in which a police general named Ferdy Sambo allegedly ordered the killing of his bodyguard, Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, on July 8. The case has been especially scandalous due to a widespread cover-up attempt implicating dozens of members of the police force.
