A video that has gone viral in Indonesia offers a rare passenger’s perspective of the immediate aftermath of a helicopter crash, in which everyone on board thankfully survived.
A helicopter carrying Jambi Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rusdi Hartono, as well as four other high-ranking cops in the province, crashed on a hill in Kerinci Regency at approximately 11am on Sunday.
Among the passengers was Grand Commissioner Andri Ananta, who took this video showing himself and the other passengers and crew scattered amid debris from the downed helicopter.
Counting three crew members, eight people were on board the helicopter when it crashed. All eight survived with varying degrees of injuries. Rusdi reportedly suffered a fractured arm.
According to reports, the helicopter, a Bell 412 SP registered to the police, crashed due to extreme weather.
Search and Rescue teams struggled to reach the crash site by air yesterday due to lack of visibility and tricky terrain. Three helicopters carried out logistics drops near the site for the survivors this morning, while cars have been deployed to evacuate the survivors by land.
