If your common sense wasn’t enough to keep you out of dimly lit parks at nights, this news certainly will.
Locals have complained that Tubagus Angke Park in West Jakarta has seen a significant rise in prostitution at night recently, coinciding with most of the park lights going out a month ago.
“When this park was first open, there was no prostitution because back then the area was well lit,” said Yohan, a resident of the area, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.
Yohan said locals reported the lack of lighting to the city’s parks agency a month ago, but, as is often the case with government agencies, they have been slow to react.
“We’re going to act on the locals’ reports about the lack of lighting at Tubagus Angke Park. We’re fixing the lights as soon as possible,” said Ratna Diah Kurniati, head of Jakarta’s Parks and Cemeteries Agency.
Well, she better not be all talk and no action. The thought of our children playing in parks where they might encounter used condoms is truly unpleasant.
